'Irish' pop-up stands take over North Wildwood

NORTH WILDWOOD — There’s a science to being a successful pop-up shop on Olde New Jersey Avenue during the Irish Festival.

You have to stand out, several vendors said as they set up their tents Friday morning.

“I try to get different things and better things—better quality,” Eileen Nolan Cooper, of Somers Point, said. “There are hundred vendors here.”

Dozens of vendors set up shop Friday, praying for sunshine and a large crowd. An estimated 250,000 people will filter through the Wildwoods for the 25th annual Irish Festival, which includes live music, a parade, among other activities.

Mercer County Kilt Festival draws crowd of music, haggis lovers

WEST WINDSOR – For the first annual Mercer County Kilt Festival, the name of the game was kilts, music and good haggis.

The all-day event Saturday was held to celebrate Irish and Scottish heritage with music, food, dancing and  - in one event – a full two-mile kilt run. People arrived, some wearing kilts, others decked in full green ensembles, to celebrate the first festival of its kind at the Mercer County Park fairgrounds.

For one vendor, it was a chance to share a food that many had never tried – haggis. Ian McAndrew, who owns a Scottish restaurant in Brick, NJ., spoke Saturday about his struggle to get more people introduced to the traditional Scottish dish.
